Assessor Duties

  • Prepares an assessment roll of all real property, vacant and improved, for the Town of Newfane
  • Establishes the condition, value and taxable status of each parcel of property.
  • Administers various real property tax exemptions authorized under state and local law. These include Star, veterans, the elderly, agricultural, clerical and partial or full exemptions for certain parcels owned by non-profit organizations which qualify by reason of religious, charitable or educational use.

Property Owners Responsibilities

  • Individual owners need to monitor their own assessments. Taxpayers who feel they are not being fairly assessed should meet with their assessor before the tentative assessment roll is established in an informal setting. The assessor can explain how the assessment was determined and the rationale behind it.
  • To ensure that our assessment records reflect the most current mailing address and to ensure that our tax bills are sent to the correct address, please notify this office of any mailing address changes

Where Can I Go With Questions:

  • The Assessor's Office is continually communicating with the public, answering questions and reviewing property data. Informal meetings with the assessor can resolve most assessment questions. To learn more about the assessment process, please call the Assessor at (716) 778-8827 or e-mail her at tonassessor@roadrunner.com You may also use the links for New York State on the left for further information and forms.
